		<description>Learning how to doing research has always been an interesting process reguardless of what age or level of education. Unlike the &#039;old days&#039; where we spent hours going from one encyclopedia to another, the internet &amp; wikipedia has opened a whole new world of instant information. Whether it&#039;s on-line or hard copy, we still  need to introduce the basics of &#039;how to&#039; find relevant information and evaluate/recognize the degree of validity or authenticity. Wikipedia, it seems, is here to stay and as long as it is monitored, could be concidered just another source of information, ready to be questioned.</description>

		<description>Have you considered looking for a novel that ties in with your Socials or Science topic?  I try to do that and find that it really helps with time and student understanding of the topic.</description>

		<description>1 question - did the article about how to improve comprehension and vocabulary also include using context clues? I find that this is an area that students often need help to develop. They become so used to asking what a new word means that they forget to look for clues within the story. When they acknowledge that they don&#039;t know the meaning of an unfamiliar word they are often quick to get a dictionary, but if they encounter more than one meaning they don&#039;t know how to determine which one fits. 

1 comment - I find it interesting that Salinger feels that intermediate teachers don&#039;t teach reading strategies. I agree with you, this is an area that is definitely taught in the intermediate classroom. It doesn&#039;t stop there either. My son&#039;s grade 10 SS teacher spent a lot of time focusing on how to become a more effective reader. He actively taught his students how to become more efficient learners.</description>

		<description>I think students should be able to use wikipedia as a resource as long as it not their only resource.  Students must know that anyone can add information on a specific topic and is based on someone&#039;s knowledge.  Do you believe in everything that people say and write?  Students must take caution using wikipedia.</description>

		<description>Wikipedia is being used all the time. It is a worry about it&#039;s validity and accuracy. Yes I think teachers and parents should be well informed about it&#039;s pros and cons. Students should be taught the best way to research and inform themselves about information that is the most accurate and current.</description>
